National Financial Awareness Day: Fidelity Bank and ICBA Encourage a Midyear Financial Check-In
In recognition of National Financial Awareness Day on August 14, 2026, Fidelity Bank and the Independent Community Bankers of America® (ICBA) are encouraging consumers to take stock of their personal finances and review spending and savings habits to stay on track of their 2026 financial goals. Unlike broader financial education initiatives that focus on learning new concepts, National Financial Awareness Day serves as a reminder to apply what individuals already know to focus on their financial health and adjust as needed.
“Financial awareness is about understanding where you are today and making informed decisions about what comes next,” said Brian deBuhr, President and CEO at Fidelity Bank. “A quick financial check-up can help identify opportunities to strengthen savings, manage expenses, or prepare for unexpected events with your trusted community bankers as a resource to help guide those conversations.”
Five Tips for a Financial Tune Up:
1. Review spending and savings. Take a fresh look at recent transactions and savings progress to ensure they align with current priorities.
2. Check financial goals. Revisit short- and long-term goals and adjust timelines or strategies to reflect shifting priorities or circumstances.
3. Assess emergency readiness. Confirm that emergency savings and insurance coverage are adequate for unexpected events.
4. Monitor accounts regularly. Reviewing account activity can help detect errors, fraud, or opportunities to improve financial efficiency.
5. Seek trusted guidance. Reach out to your local community banker to gain clarity and personalized insight tailored to your individual needs.
“National Financial Awareness Day is a good reminder that financial wellness requires diligence and frequent check-ins,” said ICBA President and CEO Rebeca Romero Rainey. “Community banks are uniquely positioned to help consumers reflect on their finances, answer questions, and take thoughtful measures to stay on the road to financial prosperity.”
