About Our Cambridge Location
The first location of Fidelity Bank was in Cambridge, Iowa. Incorporated in 1927, the focus of the Fidelity Bank Iowa was and continues to this day to be helping local Iowa businesses and people succeed. First known as Cambridge State Bank, then First State Bank, our Cambridge, Iowa branch continues to serve the community after seeing its share of major events.
One major event in the Fidelity Bank Cambridge, Iowa bank branch history was a fateful day in 1989… the day the bank blew up. On a Friday evening after business hours, a natural gas leak caused flames to shoot hundreds of feet in the air and ripped the branch building apart. The blast and fire were contained to one building and, miraculously, no one was injured in the explosion. The bank vault was safe and secure, along with the records, so the bank was able to operate out of Cambridge City Hall while the building wreckage was secured, and the branch repaired.
